Last year, I wrote about why I chose to not do an Advent podcast.
I wrote this: “It all felt not-quite-right, like when you put shoes on and they’re one size too small. It could work, but it isn’t really clicking.”
I also wrote this: “I don’t want you to think you have to spend money, or be on a certain influencer’s program to have an Advent that orients your heart towards the Lord. Advent shouldn’t be a task that makes you feel like you have your Catholicism together, it should be a season of spirit and waiting.”
I stand by every word of that post, and also, here’s where I’m at this year: I really felt an Advent podcast on my heart. So I’m making one.
The entire point of my letter last year was that you should ask God how he wants you to journey through Advent, and that may look different from year to year. This year, I’m really feeling the podcast itch, and I’m excited about it.
Maybe it will have 3 listeners. Maybe it will have zero! Maybe I will create something and release it into the black hole of the internet, the same way I did with my Xanga posts at age 14! I don’t care.
This audio project is a simple, 4-week series on the 4 women of the nativity.
Wait, did she say four?!
Yes, ma’am; I most certainly did. I see four women as integral to the story of the nativity, and I can’t wait to walk through Advent with Hannah, Elizabeth, Mary, and Anna. These four women help point us towards the idea of Emmanuel, God With Us, and I’m ready to explore their stories with you during this liturgical season.
Hannah, pray for us. Elizabeth, pray for us.
Mary, pray for us. Anna, pray for us.
Episodes will release via email and Substack on 12/1, 12/8, 12/15, and 12/22.
The Advent podcast will only be available to full subscribers.
The podcast will be launched right here on Substack’s audio platform. You will be able to listen on your podcast feed of choice.
I also wanted to let you know that in 2024, Letters From a Catholic Feminist will have a price increase for *new* full subscribers. If you subscribe on or after 1/1/24, Letters will cost 6 bucks a month or 65 bucks a year. This is to keep up with the cost of everything else in my life (holy grocery bills, y’all, and also, my littlest one’s daycare keeps inching up its fee in order to pay her wonderful care providers well). But if you’re subscribed now, or subscribe on or before 12/31/23, you’ll be locked in at the $5/month or $55/year price.
TLDR: if you’re going to be a full subscriber, I’d become one now. ❤️ This is not a stupid sales tactic or my attempt to pressure you into opening your wallet; I’d just hate to jack up the price without giving fair warning, and the way Substack works is that you’re locked in at the price you subscribe at, not the current offered price.
In Him Through Her,
Claire
Excited for the podcast and grateful for your witness of what it looks like to walk with God and how the fruit of that may look different each season 🫶🏽🙏🏾
Excited for this podcast!
