If you’ve been on the fence about joining us for our summer read-along, you may want to hop on it! Our first recap/discussion is next week.
Reading a book about gender + sex, and the evolution of both, is one thing. But having a community of passionate, like-minded feminists to discuss it with is a whole ‘nother ballgame.
From the earliest days of the Catholic Feminist, I’ve said I wanted it to feel like a bunch of us are sitting around a campfire, sipping wine and sharing our hearts and seeking truth. Not dismissing each other or talking over one another. Not stereotyping people or putting them in boxes. Just having a good ole fashioned…talk, y’know?
So here, friend. I’ve scooched over. There’s room for you on my log—bring the wine opener over, would you? We have a lot to talk about, so let’s bust open the Chardonnay. Here’s a bowl of popcorn to munch on; some blanket to cover your legs. These Wisconsin summer nights get chilly.
Let’s dive into the issue of gender, and NOT:
In a way that’s cruel, uncharitable, and lacks compassion
In a way that seeks approval from popular culture rather than truth from Christ
In a way that pays no mind to the very real suffering some of our sisters are walking with
In a way that stereotypes either gender
In a way that views disagreement as hatred
In a way that will go viral
In a way that feels like we’re all just fighting to be “right”
I just wanna get to Heaven, y’all.
I’m so honored to have so many of you wanting to get there alongside me.
Here’s how our read-along will look:
June 15: Discussion questions on Chapters 1-3
July 1: Discussion questions on Chapters 4-5
July 15: Discussion questions on Chapters 6-7
August 1: Discussion questions on Chapters 8-9
Mid-August, date TBA: a Q&A with Abigail Favale herself, who has kindly agreed to join us on Zoom!
Important: Both Ignatius and Barnes and Noble have the book already, but printing issues have led to a major Amazon delay. Instead of going through Mr. Bezos, get the book directly from the publisher here. (This read-along is not a partnership or in facilitation with Ignatius.)
Our read-along is only available to full subscribers. If you’re already subscribed, you’re good to go. If you’re not, there’s no time like the present. Get your hands on a copy of The Genesis of Gender by Dr. Abigail Favale and join us! (And if you’re not joining us, please get your hands on a copy of this book anyway! #Library4Life)
Just bought the book from the publisher website. I'm in!!
This is so timely! I was thinking a lot this week, about how I'd love to have a real conversation on this topic. Nobody wants to talk about it. I am looking forward to reading in discussing in a way that can hopefully help us to all love our neighbors better and keep our eyes on Jesus!
