The Difficulty With Catholic Politicians
JD Vance and Nancy Pelosi are somehow both Catholic, y'all
The political memes have really been delivering the past few months. My favorites are the ones that highlight the fact that some of us would really, really appreciate some precedented times right about now. Its also reminding me how far some of us can be from one another in terms of knowledge and research and interest—an entire day after Trump was almost assassinated, my husband could probably write a thesis paper on the event’s timeline, but we actually had to inform one of our best friends it had even happened the following day. Like, a full 15 hours after the fact, the guy had no idea.
While I do think there’s probably gray area to be had between I had no idea a former leader of the free world was almost murdered on live television and This event happened 18 seconds ago but I know every single thing about it in extreme detail, I will say this: politics in 2024 be crazy, y’all. I’ve been particularly enjoying Jon Stewart takes lately.
When Trump named JD Vance his running mate last week, a lot of people were gleeful and a lot were annoyed and I was particularly frustrated with a hot take from a New York Times bestselling author I follow on social media who had the audacity to say, with her full chest, “ugh, and he’s one of those Catholic weirdos too.”
