Dang, Claire, if you aren't doing what you do best: speaking truth, writing beautifully, rallying us to care. My kids aren't even up yet & by the time I clicked over to donate, the GoFundMe is nearly half funded. Thank you for sharing this story & calling us to act!
I am late to reading this and see the fundraiser is already closed but sheesh, Claire, every word of this is 🔥 Thank you for the nuanced essay and the beautiful call to action. I'll be ready for the next one ;)
I just sent the link to donate to the orphanage to a bunch of my family members and my brother pointed out that the organizer has several go fund me pages that are soliciting money for herself.
Are you able to verify that the money will go directly to the orphanage?
My family members think it may be a scam and I feel really badly if that’s the case.
This is my personal friend running it, so I’m not sure what other GoFundMe she has done in the past, but this one is specifically for the orphanage. We consulted a lawyer to figure out the best way to have the money transferred and this is what we landed on.
Hi Kelly, I totally understand wanting to verify the source, and I’m not sure if this is what you’re referring to, but just food for thought— I searched the go fund me website by the organizers name (Rebecca Webb), and the other personal fundraisers that come up (hospice, author, etc) seem to be for other people with the same name. If you click on those other personal fundraisers, the “Rebecca Webbs” organizing those seem to be in different locations: one is TN, one is NV, one is England, etc. So, it appears to be different individuals who happen to have the same name. It’s hard to be 100% positive with anything on the internet, but between that information, and Claire knowing the fundraiser personally, I hope this helps provide some context!
Thanks Mary! Yes I know Rebecca personally. After talking to a lawyer we felt this was the best way to go about it with international law, us not being a non-profit, some tax implications for the sisters, etc.

Thank you my friend. I am BLOWN AWAY. I had a whole goal schedule and it’s been blown out of the water. 😭
